Holiness Is Not What Most People Think It Is
How Do You Regard God?

A Common ProblemI believe a crime has been committed against the Lord and few people are aware of it.  It has gone unnoticed because it is not easy to detect.  In the average church, the services are going on as usual and there doesn’t appear to be much of a problem.  However, there is something lacking and it is the major reason why God is not coming to His church the way He would like to, or the way the people would want Him to come.  The problem is this:  holiness is lacking in the church!

THE PATTERN

Now before you get upset and say that you are holy and sinless, let me show you what I mean.

“According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.” Exodus 25:19

When God instructed Moses to build a tabernacle, it was to be made exactly like the model He showed him.  Not even one thing could vary from His pattern.

“And you shall raise up the tabernacle according to its pattern which you were shown on the mountain.” Exodus 26:30

Now when it was done exactly to His specifications, God promised to come and dwell in it.  When they did what He said, He did what He said!  If it wasn’t done as it was given, then God could not come as He intended!

“So they brought what Moses commanded before the tabernacle of meeting. And all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD.  Then Moses said, "This is the thing which the LORD commanded you to do, and the glory of the LORD will appear to you." Leviticus 9:5, 6

There is much talk about the glory of the Lord all over the world and everyone seems to either be in it, had it or saw it, but is it really the full glory of God?  Have we deceived ourselves by saying we have the glory, when what we really have is just a tiny bit of His presence?

Leaders get up after the worship portion of a service and say, “The glory is here.”  Is it really?  Have we done everything we should have in order to see His glory?   I believe that sensing God’s presence and walking in the glory of God are not the same things!

I know God wants to pour His glory out upon His people and do amazing signs and wonders in their midst, but remember, it can’t happen until the pattern is followed.

“And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of meeting, and came out and blessed the people. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people, and fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.” Leviticus 9:23, 24

Here is the end result of the people of God obeying the Lord by following the pattern He drew up for them.  It started with a tabernacle and also included the sacrifices and everything therein.  But what was the end result?  God came in all His glory and power and great things were accomplished.  Isn’t that what we, the church, should be looking for?
